Yoga is not new concept but about 5000 years old. The rich culture and heritage of India with Patanjali as Yoga Guru who brought out beautiful manuscript of Yoga Sutra speaks of traditional classic yoga philosophy. Also Lord Dhanvantri the celestial originator of Ayurveda talks of yoga which helps in curing numerous types of diseases in our body.

In India, Yoga was not only practised as physical exercise but more emphasis was and still is given on spiritual upliftment of our soul through meditation and ‘Pranayama’ and ‘Dhayana’ which ultimately balances our mind body and soul.

Spending few dollars a month is worth to learn yoga and then keep practising daily at home.

You don’t need to buy any equipment for doing yoga. Your machine is your body that will do yoga. Many people for cost cutting even don’t buy any fancy yoga mats to do yoga but do so with any thick piece of sheet or cloth. Yoga mats are even not necessary for many simple asanas like Pranayam. The necessity of yoga mats come for more vigorous poses where there is doubt of your sliding down the surface and thus acts as a cushion for your seating or lying positions in Yoga.

People of all ages and fitness levels can do the most basic yoga poses and stretches and you can do yoga anywhere be it your home, yoga studio, at the park, or anywhere outdoor where there is less of traffic.  At home you also don’t need much of a space to do yoga.

  • Always enroll to well reputed yoga studio to learn yoga. The yoga teacher or instructor should be well trained in the subject and should be licensed to practice yoga. Also Yoga teacher should assist you in your yoga classes and yoga lessons guiding your way through the yoga sessions.
  • If you are looking for Aerobics or fitness class for your body then yoga is not for you because yoga is not fast paced and competitive workout. Yoga is for mind body awareness and control of your bodily senses.
  • If you suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart problems, ask your doctor before you join yoga. As not all yoga postures are for everyone. Each body reacts different to Yoga in the beginning.
  • Pregnant women can do light yoga poses but should consult their doctors before doing any other yoga technique.
    Always go for a yoga  instructor who’s experienced in teaching prenatal yoga. Thus while you’re pregnant, avoid postures that put pressure on your belly or low back. Also avoid yoga where the room temperature is very high.
  • Simple yoga exercises like Pranayam are the best way to get started with Yoga as a newbie.
  • Experts recommend that the best age to start yoga is 5 years and if your body is flexible and fit you can continue till the age of 90 or more.
